TOPRAK RAZGATLIOĞLU Claims First Place in the Superpole Race! | WSBK Barcelona
At the Barcelona leg of the 2024 World Superbike Championship, victory once again belonged to Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlıoğlu in the Superpole race. Having won the first race with BMW, Razgatlıoğlu started the Superpole race from the pole position in the Barcelona weekend. From the first lap onwards, in an exciting race where Razgatlıoğlu was contested for victory by 5 riders including Bautista, Iannone, Bulega, and Alex Lowes, the winner once again was Toprak Razgatlıoğlu.
Razgatlıoğlu maintained a constant lead throughout the race, but in the final turn of the last lap, he was overtaken by Alvaro Bautista. However, without losing pace, he continued to pursue and executed a perfect pass in the final corner to regain the first position. With this victory, Razgatlıoğlu secured his 41st race win in his career. Despite never having won in Barcelona before, he now showcased an exceptional performance by winning both the first race and the Superpole race.

Speaking after the race, Razgatlıoğlu said, "I am really happy. Because this time I wasn't sure if luck would be on my side. I made a mistake at turn 10, lost control. But I managed to turn that situation to my advantage, kept close until the final corner. I was close enough to make a move at the last corner. I entered the final corner in second gear, tightened the line, and the plan worked perfectly. The acceleration wasn't as bad as I expected, and I won again. Actually, I wasn't too surprised. I always pictured that final corner in my mind, and I made it happen. I didn't surprise myself. I owe an incredible thank you to the team, they did a fantastic job. We will fight for victory again in the next race."
With Razgatlıoğlu's surge, Bautista lost momentum, and he slipped to 3rd place after overtaking Andrea Iannone, who was strong on the straights throughout the race, settling for 2nd place on the podium.
Nicolo Bulega finished the race in 4th place, followed by Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark.
After the Superpole race in Barcelona, Bulega maintains his lead with 67 points, followed by Razgatlıoğlu who climbed to 2nd place with consecutive wins and 55 points. Iannone follows closely with a 4-point gap, while Bautista is 5 points behind.
The final race in Barcelona will start today at 16:00.
